Because just because you don't agree with someone's way of doing things doesn't mean they don't deserve the right to live their life. All of those people in Everglade? They don't exactly have a say in what the mayor did or what Ted did to start this mess. You cannot go around telling people that you don't think an entire city is worth putting effort into, whether you think so or not, but I want you to understand why. [ She's not giving it back until she thinks he gets it, even if it's cold and soggy by then. ]

I never said they didn't deserve it. I just don't think every impossible battle is worth fighting, okay? And I wanted to know her reasons.

...It might not sound like it makes a lot of sense, but sometimes the best way to find out more about someone is to piss them off about something they supposedly care about. And why exactly can't I, when I'm not on the clock?

It doesn't matter, Jaune. That's not how she's going to spin it. Grell is probably the rudest person I know here with zero taste and I don't like her one bit- but I'm well-aware that she's already come to me to inform me of your attempt on Emerald's life as if it were her business.

As for the reason you can't even when you're off the clock? Because of that little kid on Halloween. There are people who look up to you, and hearing that you don't think they're worth fighting for or that someone else isn't worth fighting for? That's going to shape who they grow up to be. Whether you're on the clock or not, you have a responsibility to those who look up to you.

...Wait, what happened? And it wasn't an attempt on her life. I already told you that. It was an accident. You would know if it wasn't.

Maybe it's better that way. I'd rather someone grow up learning when it's the right time to value their life, than always risk it for every hopeless situation out there. If I'm responsible for them like you say, I'm going to be honest and I won't be the one who influences them to get killed.

Not everyone is Pyrrha, Jaune. The people who got her killed were the people who convinced her she was the only one who could fight, not the people who convinced her to do the right thing and to care about protecting others even when things are difficult.

I had something different in mind. I need you to find and watch my "better" half. Keep her out of trouble and away from anyone she can accept a cure from. I don't particularly care what you do with her as long as she stays alive and I'll make sure you can keep her by your side forever.

Killing mercifully doesn't really fit with the whole Ice Queen aesthetic you have going on.

That would be a very difficult fact to forget and honestly if I did I would deserve it. You're wrong about that. Maybe you're not as honest about it, but you are angry. It's there, and I know it is because I feel the same way.

Conscience or not, handing her to the doctors would be cruel.

I have four branches and a headquarters of my company, a research charity foundation, a house, a family, I'm remastering piano, and I don't try to drink myself to death on a regular basis. I'd say my angry energy is being channeled fairly well since I'm not the one whose work schedule is posted at local bars.

Dr. Nygma is working on an alternate cure that can recombine and repress certain traits, just so you're aware.
